GAUDINO, Roberto, PhD, Professor at Politecnico di Torino,
Italy.
Prof. Roberto Gaudino is currently an associate professor in the
Optical Communication Group (OCG) at Politecnico di Torino, where
he is working on several research topics related to optical
communications. He received the Laurea in Ingegneria Elettronica
(summa cum laude) from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 1993, and
the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering (optical communications)
in 1998. Dr. Gaudino spent the year of 1997 at the Georgia
Institute of Technology, Atlanta, as a visiting researcher in the
OCPN group, where he worked in the realization of the MOSAIC
optical network testbed. During the period 1998-2001, he was part
of the core development team for the OPTSIM™ commercial software
for long-haul system simulations. His main research interests
started in the long haul DWDM systems, fiber non-linearity,
modeling of optical communication systems and on the experimental
implementation of optical networks, and moved in latest years to
optical access and home networks.
Prof. R. Gaudino has a long experience in EU projects. He was
the Coordinator of the two STREP projects POF-ALL (FP6, Future
Networks, 2006-2008) and POF-PLUS (FP7, Photonics, 2008-2011) on
plastic optical fibers for home networking, that are today largely
recognized as pioneering projects on Gigabit transmission over
plastic optical fibers. He was also WP leader in EPhoton-ONE FP6
Network of Excellence, for the Workpackage on home networks, and
the POLITO coordinator for the ALPHA Integrated projects in FP7,
again on home and access networks. He consulted for several
companies dealing with optical communications, and he is co-author
of more than 160 papers in the field. He is a TPC member of several
major conferences, including ECOC, ICC and Globecom.
Dr Gaudino has been a member of the CEI-Europe Faculty since
2001.
Dr Gaudino lectures in the area of Fiber Optic Networks:
