3GPP LTE-Advanced Pro - Protocol and Architecture - CEI-Europe
Course #49

3GPP LTE-Advanced Pro - Protocol and Architecture

June 22 - 23, 2017 . Dresden, Germany
November 16 - 17, 2017 . Barcelona, Spain

To benefit the most, we recommend you to combine this course with #48 "3GPP LTE-Advanced Pro - Radio Technology". Please note that participants attending both course #49 and course #48 will benefit from a reduced total course fee of EUR 3250 (EUR 2925 for early firm registrations).

We recommend you to submit your preliminary or firm registration at least 4 weeks before course start to ensure a seat on the course.

TECHNOLOGY FOCUS
LTE and LTE-Advanced is THE global standard for 4G mobile broadband systems. It uses the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) as core network. Higher demands for wireless data and the demand for new type of services drive the continued evolution of wireless networks. A new standards was just defined in the latest 3GPP releases, which is called LTE-Advanced Pro and will pave the way toward future 5G systems. LTE-Advanced Pro addresses complete new markets with new systems for future Internet of Things, Public Safety, Car-to-Car communication, future Broadcast Systems and others such as wearable devices. Besides the radio, also higher layer protocols and the architecture has been enhanced to enable such new services and functions.

COURSE CONTENT
Starting from the fundamentals of LTE protocol and the overall EPC architecture, this course provides an overview of the protocol and architecture to support new LTE-Advanced Pro systems. Examples that are explained in detail are Proximity Services (incl. discovery or direct communication), Group Communication Services Enabler required for future LTE based Public Safety Systems as well as new architectures to enable Vehicle to Vehicle Communication with or without Road Side Units. For the two new Machine-to-Machine communication systems, in 3GPP called Machine Type Communication (MTC) and Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) a new lightweight architecture has been defined. Among others, it allows to send messages via the control plane or to suspend the user plane to minimize the signaling overhead for massive M2M communication. Technologies like network slicing will enable the separation of networks serving different requirements and will also be supported in future 5G networks.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The course is suitable for engineers that already work 2G/3G or 4G systems and are interested in future evolution of the core network towards 5G. The course is held by a technical expert in the field that is directly involved in 3GPP standardization and provides a hands on up to date background information of the latest trends in this industry. Therefore it is suitable for all kind of engineers from research, development, planning, deployment and operation as well as executives, managers and system architects.

Any pre-existing knowledge of LTE technology and the Evolved Packet Core will deepen the understanding of the technical details of LTE-Advanced Pro. Same understanding of the underlying LTE-Advanced Pro radio technology as presented in the preceding course #48 3GPP LTE-Advanced Pro: Radio Technology is recommended.
